Welcome!

Welcome to Tyler and Julie's website! This website is about our life and journeys together in California, in Spain and anywhere else we find ourselves. We hope it becomes a place of connection for friends, family, partners in ministry and anyone else who is interested in what's going on in our lives.

How's Life in Madrid?

Life has definitely changed a TON in the last weeks of our lives. It's starting to get to that point where life before Ellie feels so distant. Five weeks is not a long time, but it has felt like a long time. Raising a child in her first weeks is beyond words. The responsibility the parents have (especially, and directly the mom) and the sacrifice willing to be paid is unlike any other relationship. I have developed a growing respect for parents who do just an OK job at being parents. Being OK parents is a huge sacrifice.

Also during this time, life in ministry has changed (not that raising a child isn't part of our service to God, but you know what I mean, ministry outside of the realm of family). Language school has become an everyday commitment again and our work with university students has become much more involved. This last week was our busiest week of ministry yet. We spent Monday through Thursday at tables near the metro (subway) entrance on campus doing a survey and handing out flyers about upcoming events we have planned. It was a wonderful week of seeing students respond to the questions and show interest in the deeper things of life. 600 students took the survey and thousands more received information about a film discussion night and conversation group we will be having two nights each week. Both evenings are based around themes like relationships, justice and freedom. It's also exciting because various people from our local church have showed interest in being a part of this with us. In the midst of all this, I decided to get pretty sick this week and, if you haven't heard, we also found out that Ellie wasn't getting enough to eat from Julie over these past weeks. This was really difficult for us to know that she's been hungry basically since the beginning. She's doing a lot better now, but in some ways it felt like we have started all over again with her. We know she's doing better because she is growing a nice little double chin! Yeah for the double chin! I've never been so excited about a double chin in my life.
