Why and What in Spain

Our family is in Madrid, Spain working with an international christian organization, Mission to the World. Our team of ten works to assist, empower and partner with the local church in the city both to strengthen existing ministry and with the hope to assist in starting new churches in the Madrid area. We believe that it is through the church that God brings healing to the world as his Kingdom grows.

What do we actually DO? This question can be broken down into two parts. Our first ministry is a ministry of learning, learning the language and the culture of Spain and Madrid. This includes language school, language exchanges with Spaniards, demographic studies, surveys, and just living life in the culture. The learning aspect deeply informs how we do ministry and enables the effectiveness of our ministry. Our second emphasis is university ministry. We are currently partnering with local churches to build their engagement with centers of learning in the city. We have found that the best way to see new churches planted in the future is to partner with local churches in their own ministry. There are around 150,000 students on the largest university campus in Madrid and only a tiny percentage of the students have any contact with the renewing power of the gospel. We run English clubs, lead outreach events, spiritual discussion groups, film clubs and are looking in the future to start a humanitarian outreach group on campus as a way to engage unbelievers with gospel ministry. Most of the students at the universities in Madrid will stay in Madrid and will be defining the life of the city for years to come.
